Call for Proposals: Apply via PNN to the Social Safety Grant Programme

The Programma Sociale Veiligheid has officially launched a new funding round to support initiatives that improve social safety in academia. PhD and postdoc organizations — or individuals working closely with them — are invited to submit their ideas. However, the programme requires applicants to meet certain formal criteria (e.g. being a legal entity with at least three years of institutional funding), which not all organizations can fulfill independently.

That’s where PNN comes in. PNN meets the criteria for subsidy application, and can submit a few proposals per round. We have set a maximum of 5 proposals per round, due to capacity at our organization. PNN will serve as a springboard for PhD/postdoc initiatives that meet the programme’s goals but not the formal criteria. This way, we hope to encourage that many initiatives focus on our target audience: PhD candidates and postdocs.

More information about the programme and the assessment framework is available here. Please check out this information before contacting us. To make sure you are kept up to date, also make sure you sign up for the newsletter of the program via that website!

Who can apply via PNN?

We welcome draft proposals from:

  • PNN or PostdocNL board members,
  • PhD and/or postdoc organizations (or collaborations between them),
  • Individuals working in active collaboration with a PhD/postdoc organization or PNN/PostdocNL.

We welcome applications that focus on PhD candidates or postdocs, or related issues, questions or initiatives.

Please note: PNN will not act as a passive pass-through for individuals without involvement from a PhD or Postdoc organization.

If you are considering submitting a subsidy, please also consider your own institution (e.g. graduate school) for application. PNN’s capacity is limited.

Timeline – Round 1

Date Milestone
1 May Deadline to express interest in applying via PNN
7 June Deadline to submit your draft proposal based on the programme’s criteria
10–14 June PNN feedback round on drafts
10 July Internal deadline for submitting final documents to PNN
18 July Final submission by PNN

How to express interest

If you’re interested in applying via PNN, please let us know, preferably as soon as possible, before 1 May by emailing chair@hetpnn.nl with a short description of your idea and who is involved. We’ll get back to you to get acquainted and see whether we can support your idea.  This also allows us to explore potential integration of multiple initiatives due to overlap or synergism.

In most cases, your organization will be the executor of the project, and PNN’s involvement will be limited. However, we will discuss beforehand where responsibilities lie. If we send in a proposal together, we’ll sign a collaboration agreement that outlines these responsibilities and reporting expectations, but also payment procedures and financial documentation. This is to make sure PNN can meet the obligations that come out of the subsidy.

Do you have questions or want to discuss your idea before applying? Don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
