On the 5th of June 2020, the employers ‘association and labor union concluded a final agreement on the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities 2020. The parties have agreed on a structural wage increase of 3.0% as of the 1st of June 2020. In addition, all employees receive, a one-off payment of € 750 gross, on the basis of a full-time employment contract.
Furthermore, 0.45% of the wage margin is reserved for financing bottlenecks related to costs caused by Covid-19. This could, for example, be an extension of temporary contracts for PhD candidates. Moreover, an ‘ombudsman’ function is set up at all universities as a result of the evaluation of the ‘ombudsman’ pilot.
Our chair Lucille: “It is great that this collective agreement has made room to help PhD candidates and researchers with temporary contracts if they are delayed as a result of the Covid-19 crisis. It is also positive that the ombuds function has a permanent place within the universities. This will hopefully lead to greater social safety within universities. This is certainly important for PhD candidates, because they are in a vulnerable, dependent position. ”
